Image compression is a process of reducing the amount of data needed to represent a digital image without loss of generality. In this article, the history of image compression and its basic concepts are discussed. Two commonly used image compression techniques viz. Lossless and Lossy image compression are also summarized.

From the past to present, it has been a long journey for the Telecommunications. Many innovations, new ideas and alternative technologies have richly contributed to the growth of telecommunications. As early as in 3000 BC, the use of smoke and drum beat for signaling were with innovations like encoding information by varying the size, hue, and position of the smoke puff and by varying sound beat pattern of the drums.
One of the present day applications of telecommunications is in telemetry and tele-transfer of data, The traditional fields like agriculture, crop production, farm irrigation, besides many other fields, are deriving benefits. It is a long way ahead to see many more technologies that will be newer and more innovative to appear and to enrich the telecommunications.
This paper attempts to highlight some of the above mentioned aspects and pays tributes to large number of scientists, mathematicians, engineers, technologists, organizations and their R & D groups who have immensely contributed to the telecommunications.

To revise and transform traditional teaching and learning models and practices evolved in the past decade e-Learning is answer. It is a concept derived from the use of information and communication technologies. In today’s global society, e-leaming may provide a lot of useful features in a wide range of learning and teaching situations. This evolution has resulted from the emergence of the information society and has greatly impacted on the global economic and socio-cultural development. However, researchers in the field still argue that the development of e-Learning has not been tested by time and is still in its infancy. This has resulted into continued research in the e-Learning field generating numerous implementation strategies, a scope that requires identifying and understanding. This paper explores factors affecting implementation of e-leaming and challenges of e-leaming.

Biometrics is becoming an essential component of effective person identification solutions because biometric identifiers cannot be shared or misplaced, and they intrinsically represent the individual's bodily identity. Recognition of a person by their body, then linking that body to an externally established “identity”, forms a very powerful tool of identity management with tremendous potential consequences, both positive and negative. Consequently, biometrics is not only a fascinating pattern recognition research problem but, if carefully used, is an enabling technology with the potential to make our society safer, reduce fraud and provide user convenience. In this paper, a brief overview of biometric system. Comparison of Biometric Technologies and different application of the systems is given.

It can be performed with the help of a query that compares questioned document with the set of known documents and finding the most similar handwriting. Various features that can be used in the matching are: directions, curvatures, edge based directional features etc. The present paper describes the basics of Author identification and techniques used in the process.

The purpose of this paper is to highHght properties of smart fluids - magnetorheological (MR) fluids, electro-rheological (ER) fluids and ferro-fluids (FF). The field of magnetic fluids is a multi-disciplinary area: chemists study their synthesis and produce the ferro-fluids, Physicists study their physical properties and propose theories which explain them. Engineers study their applicability auid use them in technological products. Biologists and Physicians study their biomedical possibilities and use them in medicine and in the biological area. The properties of the magnetic fluids make them useful for many technological, biological and medical purposes. A brief discussion on their applications such as vibration control; reduction of vibrations in air conditioning compressors and other machines; earthquake shock absorbers; fast acting brakes, clutches and hydraulic valves; control of aerospace vehicles; detection of cancer and removal of tumors; sensors for analytical instrumentation; etc. is presented.Keywords

In the present paper possibilities of integrating concept related to natural language processing (NLP) in Ambient Intelligence (Ami) are discussed. These areas have a gi'eat impact on the life of a person in today's world. There is a need to integrate these fields. Utilizing NLP in Ami has the potential to generate cutting-edge research leading to substantial technological advances.
